화산이 `분출하다`고 할 때 `erupt`를 쓴다. 가령 `그 화산은 언제든지 분출할 수 있다`고 하려면 `The volcano could erupt at any time`이다. 이뿐 아니라 갑자기 폭력적으로 감정이 `터지다`고 할 때도 활용된다. `반 일본 시위자들이 섬 분쟁 문제로 감정을 폭발했다`는 `Anti-Japan protesters erupted in China over disputed islands`로 표현할 수 있다.

A: 두 나라 간 영토 분쟁은 일촉즉발의 위기에 처해 있어요.
B: 독도 또한 한일 간의 영토 분쟁의 중심에 있어 왔어요.
